About Us

Peace is the most precious commodity on the planet.  Peace helps us to thrive and live in community with one another, respectfully and with hope.  Our families flourish, our communities flourish, our businesses flourish, and we can realize the hopes and dreams we have long harboured for our lives.  Peace makes everything possible.

Sadly, it is elusive for some of us, and we struggle to find our way back to the peace we crave and need in our lives.  This is the focus and purpose of NL Peacebuilding; to help others find their way to peace.

Over the past 30 years, Nancy Watson has partnered with individuals and businesses who recognize and value the many benefits peace brings. Whether for themselves or their work community, her work with clients yielded the peaceful results they sought.

Rethinking Feedback: Moving from Data to Reaction

Once again, one of my favourite thinkers and authors is challenging current thinking and practice.  For years I have been teaching how to deliver Effective Feedback, which focuses on observation and data rather than opinion, which is of course subjective.

How We Show Up Matters

“Every encounter, every opportunity, and every moment is an invitation to shape our world with the power of our presence and attitude. Whether it’s a warm smile that brightens someone’s day or an unwavering commitment that propels us toward our goals, how we show up matters – not just to others, but to ourselves as well. In a dynamic and interconnected world, let’s embrace the profound impact of our actions and make each interaction a testament to the significance of our presence.”

How Do You Know When You Need Help to Resolve Your Conflict?

When dealing with conflicts, it’s essential to recognize when outside help is needed for a positive resolution. If a conflict persists over time, escalates, or leads to unproductive communication, seeking assistance from a neutral mediator is beneficial. Professional help becomes crucial in situations with power imbalances or high-stakes consequences, ensuring a fair and constructive resolution for all parties involved.

Quiet Quitting

Quiet Quitting has been a major topic in organizations, with speculation about its causes. Some see it as an evolutionary change in the economy, while others attribute it to workforce demographics and pandemic-related shifts. The hybrid workplace and forced return to physical locations have made the work environment unappealing and demotivating for many. Gallup’s 2022 World Work Report revealed that 61% of the world’s workforce quit quietly, citing dissatisfaction with workplace culture and management practices.

I’ve just finished Dr. Jennifer Frazer’s book The Bullied Brain: Heal your scars and restore your health.  The book traces her awareness of bullying from her first experience of the implications of bullying behaviour on one of her children, up to and including the intense five years of neuroscientific research with Dr. Merzenick (of Cochlear Implant fame) on our brain’s capacity to heal after being subjected to bullying behaviour.

Dr. Frazer’s book is easy to read and understand and describes brain functions and why they matter to lay people.  Dr. Frazer has two pages of examples of bullying behaviours and the resulting trauma, including child and teen bullying, family bullying, and workplace bullying, on Psychology Today.  Please read the book first, or listen to it on Audible.

If you work with children, young people, or groups of humans in any capacity, this is a MUST READ.  The insight, compassion and empathy you will gain are invaluable to you and to all those with whom you interact.
